Make sure to reconnect the power once you have completed this test and ensure that the green charging light is back on. You should leave them without power for 5 to 10 minuets, or longer if you have a big building. Then walk the building and check that each light is illuminated correctly. Probably through a test key switch or isolating in the fuse box. MonthlyĪpproximately once a month perform a quick functional emergency light test. This is so that any emergency lighting failures are immediately spotted and you can do something about it, before you need to rely on them.
Best of all if you have a central battery system there is only one place to check. It is easily done and incorporated into a opening or closing routing of walking the building and glancing upward to the lights. But every day someone should be checking that the green indicator LED is illuminated on every emergency light. That’s not to say that you should be doing a full 3 hour emergency light test on a daily basis, that’s not feasible.
